I was born and spent my childhood in Indore. But after my father was transferred to Mumbai, my family settled there. Recently, I got the opportunity to visit my home town to attend a business meeting. The journey from Mumbai to Indore by Jet Airways was a smooth, convenient one. I landed at the Indore airport during the evening. My hotel was based in the heart of the city. It was well connected with the major attractions of the city.
My room had a contemporary décor which made me feel at home. It was well maintained and equipped with contemporary furniture, minibar, colour TV, telephone and coffee maker. Here are some of the major highlights of my trip which made my stay in Indore worth mentioning: -

Visiting the different attractions around the city
The next day was a Sunday. So, I went out of Choki Dhani Indore to have a look at the major landmarks across the city. My first destination was the Rajwada, which is a major attraction of the city. Built by the Holkar kings, it is a unique fusion of Mughal, Maratha and British style of architecture. The three lower floors of the building are made from stone while the top floors are created from wood.
I also visited the Laal Baag Palace. Built in 1886, its architectural style has been deeply influenced by that of European palaces which were built during the period. Its gates are a replica of those of Buckingham Palace. The interiors of the palace have been adorned with sculptures, paintings and prehistoric artifacts.

Dining at Chokhi Dhani Indore
I returned to my hotel during the afternoon for lunch. The Dal Bafla, which is similar in taste to Dal Bati was served as a starter for lunch. The wheat balls were cooked in pure desi ghee and went well with the dal and coriander sauce. I also tasted the Bhopali Gosht Korma. Cooked using a wide range of condiments, the mutton based dish left a unique aftertaste in my mouth. I ended my meal with the Mawa Bati, which is one of the most popular sweets of Madhya Pradesh. I could recollect fond memories of my childhood when we used to go out for eating.
Shopping Fun in MT Cloth Market
I vividly remember the time during Diwali when I used to accompany my parents to the MT Cloth Market. A visit to the market seemed like a walk back to my childhood. The shops here deal in a wide range of Indian and western apparels. I spent my time visiting the shops based here. The prices quoted by shopkeepers were quite affordable as compared to Mumbai. Therefore, I could buy the clothes of my choice without worrying about the rates.
I also visited the Heritage Market which is the hub of major handloom and handicrafts items from different parts of Madhya Pradesh. I bought some Chanderi and Maheshwari sarees for my sister from the market. While departing, I wondered at how Indore as a city has been transformed over the years.
