Mangaladevi Temple

Mangaladevi Temple: Formerly, the city of Mangalore was known as Mangalapur before the British anglicized it. The name Mangalapur comes from the deity Mangala Devi. This temple is dedicated to the goddess and hence was the name. The King of the Ahepa dynasty established this temple in the 19th century.

Gokarnanatheshwara Temple: This temple is dedicated to ‘Gorakhnatha’, the Hindu deity Lord Shiva. The temple’s architecture is more like to the Dravidian style. It features 60 feet high golden colored gopuram and is decorated with stucco figures. This temple features some exquisite rock carving and sculpting work.

Panambur Beach: It is located 13 kilometers from Mangalore. This beach is the best place to relax and is less crowded. It is safe for secluded swimming.

Surathkal Beach: It is a pristine beach located 12 kilometers from the Mangalore city. It is popular among the tourists for its unique powdery sand ideal for walking barefoot. This beach is also famous for its lighthouse that offers some beautiful views of the ocean and the countryside.

PilikulaNisargadhama: It is located 15 kilometers from Mangalore in the picturesque hamlet of Vamanjoor and is one of the most preferred picnic spots near the city. It is a paradise for nature and wildlife lovers. You can find several wildlife species like tigers, leopards, and a variety of reptiles and snakes. It also houses a cageless zoo, a botanical garden, and a golf course within its premises.

St. Aloysius Church: The Jesuit Missionary had built this marvelous Church in 1880. It is famous for its beautiful architecture and interiors. The inside walls of the church feature paintings by the Italian artist Antonio Moscheni. The paintings feature the various saints in Christianity. A special committee is appointed that is responsible for their maintenance and restoration of all the paintings.

Srimanthi Bai Memorial Government Museum: It was established in 1960. It is located near the KSRTC bus stand. It is also known as Bejai Museum and it houses a variety of antiquities including wooden carvings of Bhairava and Hanuman, stone sculptures, porcelain, etc.
